Optimistic Ignorance

Moving on, here are 2 fitness concepts, 2 business nuggets, and a quote to consider this week.

2 Fitness Tips

1.

"As I take a look around the weight room, I notice that I am one of the oldest people there and it fills me with so much pride and happiness. I'd rather be the oldest person in the weight room versus the youngest patient in the intensive care unit!"

-Jackie Llovet

2.

In 2022, the pharmaceutical, vitamin, and supplement industries were worth $660 billion. The entire rest of the health, fitness, and gym industries only generated $30 billion. Cures and quick fixes account for 21X more revenue than prevention.

That’s insane.

2 Business Nuggets

1.

Failure’s like a bee sting. Before you get stung, you’re told it hurts but you don’t know how much. It’s scary. The unknown always is. And of course, getting stung hurts. But then it’s over and you realize that it wasn’t a big deal and life goes on so you aren’t as scared of it happening the next time. Failure’s the same way. The more it happens, the less afraid of it you become.

If you’re not failing, you’re not trying enough. Similarly, if you’re never getting stung by bees, you’re probably not getting out into nature and exploring enough.

2.

System-oriented thinking views goals as beacons––something to aim towards. They provide direction, moving you forward in the correct broad direction.

Achievements should be viewed as waypoints, a part of a greater journey, and not endpoints, the end of one journey and beginning of another. The key thing about systems is that they focus on a set of behaviours, not outcomes, and anticipate ups and down because nobody is perfect and we have to account for that.

1 Quote to Consider

"The search should not be for what would work best, but for how to be your best self."

Going to Nicaragua soon. Will be there and Mexico for the next four months. Mexico has tacos. Does Nicaragua? I hope so. If they don't, I'll be on the first plane out of the country. OK, that's a lie. But I'll be really disappointed. Anyway, happy holidays!
