Lisa Simone Richards just successful funded her first kickstarter campaign for a female founders journal.

In a post on LinkedIn, she praised my book, The Obvious Choice, saying:

Of course, one of the first things we usually jump to as bootstrapping entrepreneurs is to grow our social following. (And yes, I do want people to see the brand!)

But while reading Jonathan Goodman's The Obvious Choice last night, one chapter title really landed with me: “Become Famous to the Family.”

When I look at the Kickstarter data, 56% of our sales came from just TWO communities I’m actively involved in. That wasn’t from viral posts or clever dance reels. It came from building genuine, consistent relationships with people who already know me.

That insight is reshaping my marketing strategy:

→ Less chasing strangers.

→ More deepening roots where I’m already known.

→ More showing up where I can actually connect, not just post & perform.

So instead of asking 'How do I get more followers?' I’m asking: 'Where else can I build meaningful relationships with female founders?'

When Lisa actually looked at the data, the truth was clear: working to become famous to the family is a straighter path to success than trying to be famous on the internet.

The real game of life is internal. There’s no big bad boss. We’re our only enemy. It’s like Tetris, where getting a high score depends on a strong foundation. Bad choices multiply, good choices divide. “An early mistake is always lurking there to trip you up. You’ve got to dig down and sort it out sooner or later or you won’t get anywhere. Sorting yourself out can take a long time, but it’s always possible.” Writes David Charles

Build fitness when you have it, so that it's there when you need it. The best way to deal with something unhealthy is to first become as healthy as possible.

Relationships

A valuable reframe: If your job gives you the freedom to have coffee with your partner, lunch with friends, dinner with your family, and exercise regularly, you’re already successful.

Spring time. Back in flip flops. Nice to not have to wear socks. I don't like wearing socks. Do you like wearing socks? That's a trick question . . . nobody likes wearing socks.
