Before we begin, I'm excited to share that Unhinged Habits is now available in the UK and all across Europe. To those who preordered, thank you for your patience. If you didn't preorder a copy, you can buy Unhinged Habits on Amazon Uk or anywhere locally you buy books.

Next, here are a few short thoughts this week.

Health

1

The older I get, the more I realize that the reason we lift weights is because it’s hard. When we say we’re going to do something hard and we do it, we begin to trust in our own word. That we did what we committed to doing. That we can sit with discomfort and do the hard thing. This commitment to excellence extends outside of the gym. We begin to believe we are capable of more in every area.

An idea I can't get out of my head:

You need to get your fitness to a level where you’re prepared for the randomness of life. That you're resilient enough to roll over on your ankle without it being called a sprain. If there's friends going for a hike, you can join without anxiety. You can play with your kids, or your friends kids. The older you get, fitness becomes less about how you look and more about not being limited.

-Inspired by a conversation with Jorel Doherty

Relationships

1

"A lot of the reason we look to friends is because they’re a source of meaning. If you’re getting meaning in other ways, it’s easy to let your friendships wither. That’s one reason success can be isolating."

-Hank Green from A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor

2

"I know real tough guys and trust me
They ain't with the shoutin' so
Speak through your actions
Don't you ever be too passive
Your potential be too massive
Fight that ignorance with passion"

-Marlon Craft from the song Brainiacs

Selflessness starts with selfishness. Put your oxygen mask on first. Stop leaving yourself last. Miss unimportant events, but don’t miss the big stuff. And don’t people please. I used to be a people pleaser. Was afraid of not being liked by anybody. Then I cared less. Then not at all. It's a muscle to train; not caring about the people or things that don't matter. Which is almost everything. The tradeoff when you become more to the people that you love is that you have to act selfish towards the people you don't.

A few things or people I like and recommend

Eric Zimmer's first book How a Little Becomes a Lot comes out next Tuesday. It's a book about what gets between us and our best intentions—and how we can learn to make and keep promises to ourselves. I've gotten to know Eric this past year. Stellar guy.

Now available in the UK and Europe - Unhinged Habits

Friggin' finally.

Traditionally-published books take a long time to become available worldwide.

Distribution. Fulfillment. Blah blah blah.

Anyway, thank you to everybody in Europe that's been waiting patiently. The hardcover is available anywhere you buy books locally.

For your convenience, here is the Amazon UK link

I hope you buy a copy and give it a chance.

And, if you do, I hope that the book is both impactful and useful for you.
