Moving on, here are a few short thoughts this week.

Money

1.

The older we get, the more pressure we tend to feel to optimize the life we’re living for productivity, efficiency, and certainty. Perhaps the secret to a happier life is as simple as the willingness to make more mistakes.

2

The faster you respond to a customer inquiry, the better your business will do.

3

Refund requests are the result of unmet needs. What they say when they request it is never the real reason or full story.

Best thing to do is get them on the phone, apologize, say that you’ve let them down, and want to do better. Lead with sincerity and empathy.

Even if you did nothing wrong, in their mind, they were let down.

Your first goal is to learn why. When you do this, one of two things will happen:

1. They’ll tell you what was really missing. You might then be able to promise a fix and convince them to stay on as a trial with that fix.

2. They’ll admit it’s on them and something going on in their life. You can then usually either extend their participation or invite them into the next session and put their payments on hold.

In many cases, of course, you’ll have to refund (especially if you don’t have a contract.) This happens. It’s part of the business. Be pleasant and nice about it. Wish them well. Don’t burn bridges. Send the money back. And never think about it again.

Health

1.

When it comes to fitness, convenience and making it habitual trumps all. Will you do it because it fits your schedule? If so, it’s a good fit for you. All the hype about a specific modality is irrelevant at the start. Make sure you can get it done before trying to make it perfect.

Relationships

1.

Choose one thing daily that you've optimized for efficiency and deliberately do it the "long way" for thirty days. Take the scenic route. Cook from scratch. Write by hand instead of typing. Practice inefficiency.

Haven't eaten tacos for a while. Maybe I'll eat tacos today. Yeah, that's a good idea. K, gotta go. Bye for now.
