Transform Your Life by Doing Less (Podcast)

Next, here are a few short thoughts this week.

Money

1

The algorithm wants to show content to relevant audiences. If your account focuses on one topic and is being engaged with by similar types of people, the algorithm easily identifies others like them on the platform to show your content to.

Health

1

I want to be rich in:

-SLOW MORNINGS where I can write without rushing.
-TRAVEL without asking for approval.
-TIME WITH PEOPLE I LOVE, on my terms, without guilt.
-THE FREEDOM to build something of my own.
-FITNESS to feel good, avoid disease, and move without pain.

Relationships

1

There’s a sort of citizenship that exists within an industry. It's the same as being a citizen of a city or state. We all must support one another. When that happens, we all thrive and good work proliferates.

2

It takes no money and almost no work to publicly support somebody else doing good work. You have the power to make somebody’s day and provide a positive signal encouraging a person (who might be doubting themselves at that exact moment) to keep going. How wonderful.

3

When you work 70-hour weeks, you start to believe you are the person who works 70-hour weeks. The person who sacrifices everything for the next milestone. The person who doesn't have time for the things that actually matter.

Your identity fuses with the chase. Your network reinforces it. Your habits lock it in. And escaping starts to feel like losing yourself.

I went into this book expecting to be told to eat cereal out of a shoe to "disrupt my routine,"

. . . Here I go reading reviews of Unhinged Habits again. I really shouldn't do this.

Anyway, here's what a reviewed who goes by the name of "Midnight Tails and Chapters" said on Goodreads.

"it turns out the only thing "unhinged" about this guide is the title. It’s actually a shockingly grounded manual for reclaiming your sanity."

I'll even take Gayla's three-star review:

"Goodman's tendency to self-congratulation can be extremely grating. Having said that, though, I did find more useful nuggets in this book than in most others in the genre, and I made a couple of notes of strategies I'll be trying out in the future, so fine, take your three stars, dammit."

Gayla, I will take my three stars, dammit. And I will celebrate the hell out of those three stars.

Jokes aside, my only goal is that this book is useful. That Gayla got some useful nuggets out of it is enough, even if she didn't connect as much with the tone.

Hope you buy the book today wherever you buy books.
