No new content this week. Been busy with family and final copyedits of my next book. Here's a popular article (+vid) from a few months back you may have missed:

How to Grow Social Media from Nothing (or, basically nothing)

Next, a few short thoughts this week.

Money

1.

Have you ever heard of Murphy’s Law? Everything that can go wrong will go wrong. I haven’t found that to be true. Instead, I've found its inversion more accurate. Call it Yhprum's Law: Everything that can work out will work out.

While Murphy’s Law makes us fear the worst, Yhprum’s reminds us that life has a funny way of working out for people willing to try things, often in ways we couldn’t have planned. That even when our plans fall apart, it often results in something wonderful.

2.

We revel in denying ourselves. “If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a no,” many advise, missing the necessary nuance.

Productivity isn’t the struggle. Having something worth being productive for is. Admittedly, saying yes to more isn’t productive. It does, however, lead to more serendipity.

Fine, I say. Less productivity, more serendipity.

Meander more. Walk barefoot in the grass more. Stop and watch the sunset more. And if somebody else is getting ahead because they’ve decided to work nights and weekends and you didn’t, smile and say “good for you” more.

Health

1.

Be 'boring'.

-Wake up early.

-Go to bed early.

-Go for long walks.

-Drink mostly water.

-See friends and family.

-Turn off social media often.

-Eat the same nutritious foods.

-Progress using the same exercises.

Isn't it ironic how being boring makes for bad content but a great life.

2.

Everybody knows how to be in good shape. But they don’t do it. Why? Because wrong is easier. Short-term hacks and quick-fixes are easier. And right is effort.

Relationships

1.

Enjoy different hobbies. Travel. Explore. Don’t be afraid to evolve, or for your spouse to evolve. Stagnation is unattractive. Forms moss. In order for you to grow together, each partner needs to grow apart. “What, indeed, is love if not the enmeshing of separate excitements?” wrote Maria Popova.

Caught a home run. Threw it back on the field. Got kicked out of our seats by security. Did it right at the ball game last week. (Video here.)

A Book Recommendation: Let's Retire Retirement

Buy on Amazon here

This is a simple book with a compelling idea that could change your outlook on life.

That, perhaps, you can live like you're rich today without going broke tomorrow.

The idea:

Instead of planning to retire at, say, 65 . . .

Plan to work until 75 instead.

But, like, do stuff you like to do later on in life. You'll probably want to keep working anyway. Keeps your brain sharp.

And, when you do,

1. You will have ten more years to save

2. Your investments have ten more years to compound

3. Your retirement savings need to last 20 years instead of 30

An example:

Tony is 45 years old. Makes $150k. Has $150k in savings.

If he retired at 65, he'd need to save $2,390 every month––an almost-impossible amount for parents with young kids, a mortgage, and desire to enjoy life.

He enjoys his work, and asked his advisor "what if I plan to work until 75 instead?

The result was astonishing. Tony's required monthly savings dropped from $2,390 to $110 a month (a 96% reduction.)

Which means Tony can take more vacation now, spend more on experiences with his family now, and live a better life today, which his kids are still young.

Super compelling. Changed my mindset. Might change yours.

I've bought 50 copies to give away. Highly recommend the book.
