So you want to earn money writing for fitness.
I don’t blame you, it’s a sweet gig. Getting paid to write as a secondary source of income allows you to spend more time with your family, working out, or in the great outdoors. Imagine being able to take time off of training while still getting paid. A paid writing gig usually lands you $350-$500 in addition to the recognition of being able to say quoted in Men’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Muscle & Fitness, Livestrong, T-Nation, Oxygen, Shape etc.
Or maybe you want your primary focus to be writing. Speaking form experience it’s a great life. I have autonomous control of my day and travel constantly. I’ll be spending the winter in Hawaii on a beachfront apartment with my laptop by my side. Instead of waking up at 5am and walking through the snow in the dark to the gym now I’ll wake up to the sound of waves.
Whatever your fitness writing goal is I want to help.
The hardest part is getting heard. Getting the attention of fitness editors and influencers is difficult. They’re busy people and often don’t respond to cold calls.
This is your forum.
I want a very succinct submission from you but before I tell you what it is consider the following:
– This site gets read 3,000-6,000x/day
– Many of the readers are editors of large magazines, websites, and authors. Others are influential writers that write for those magazines who have enough clout to get you into a magazine with one recommendation.
– All it takes is to get heard once. Once you’re in and you do good work you’re in.
So here’s what I want.
I want you to email me at [email protected] and tell me in 75 words or less why you want to write for fitness. Please include a 150*150 head shot. Be real. Be emotional. Let me (and the editors reading this) into your life.
Tell me when you decided you wanted to write for fitness and what brought it on. Was there a specific a-ha moment?
Tell me what you hope to gain from writing for fitness. Is it more freedom over your schedule? Will the passive income help you take more vacation? Or spend more time with your family? Or maybe you have aspirations to be a celebrity trainer and this is a stepping stone?
Whatever the reason I want specific details. Let us connect with you on a personal level.
When do I need it by?
Let me start by stating that editors like working with people they like and people that make their job easier. This means a couple things.
1. People like people who are themselves. So be yourself in your 75 word piece.
2. Make sure it is grammatically correct. I will not be editing these submissions.
3. Get it in as soon as possible. Editors hate sending out a request and not getting an immediate reply.
With these things considered I must have your responses no later than Saturday Sept. 15 at midnight. Anything after that will not be published on Monday Sept. 17th.
If they are more than 75 words they will not be published. Less is more. Learn to value your words.
If you want to get the attention of fitness editors and influencers this is your chance. Act quick and send me your submissions to [email protected] before midnight on Saturday September 15th. Please include a 150*150 head shot. If you know anybody else who is a budding fitness writer email it to them, share it on their wall, tweet it at them, give them a call. I want to help the best get their word out and thePTDC readers are the best there is.
