Our Choice for the Article of the Week
One of the most common issues we deal with as personal trainers is client pain — sore knees, tweaked shoulders, even chronic low back issues. Our method for dealing with these issues, if they are issues not better served by a medical consult, has often been to fix them, through exercise. We use mobility drills, we use stretching, we use strength training to bring up weak muscle groups. But in doing so, as Anoop Balanchandran shows, we perpetuate “an explanatory model that is further instilling the belief that is pain is due to tissue pathology or tissue dysfunction or weakness,” instead of recognizing where pain actually begins — in the brain.
