Best Content of the Week

"Relentless" came up in my suggested titles in the Audible app. That's how I was first introduced to Tim Grover, famous for being the personal trainer to iconic athletes like Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Dwyane Wade. I'll be honest, I was immediately put off by the seemingly unabashed cockiness in Grover's writing.

But I stuck with it, and I'm glad I did. What I began to appreciate was that Grover hadn't written a self-help book. There were no fluffy feel-good theories in it. Rather, he was speaking objectively. He was speaking honestly about the different approach to life that champions seemed to have—not celebrities that he did a 60-minute interview with, we're talking world champions he worked with closely throughout their careers.

When you hit this week's podcast (selected for you by our guy, Mike Howard), pay special attention to Grover's words and ask yourself honestly:

"Do I really WANT to be a champion?"

The Victory Mentality with Tim Grover -- Scott Barry Kaufman, The Psychology Podcast

Tim Grover has held what most coaches would consider a dream job: personal trainer to Michael Jordan. Tim brings some blunt reality mixed in with some emotional storytelling—including speaking to his client Kobe Bryant a week before his passing. He talks about going from making $3.35 an hour as a gym attendant (with a master's degree in exercise science, no less) to training MJ for 15 years, as well as other NBA hall of famers. Coaches will benefit from both the coaching wisdom and the psychology of winning—which is anything but pretty or glamorous.
