As fitness professionals, we intentionally expose ourselves to a lot of science. Many of us consume the scientific papers directly or read the more digestible versions via the media, who–to put it lightly–don’t always get things right. For once, popular media got it right about other media often getting it wrong.
In HBO’s Last Week Tonight With John Oliver, John Oliver took on bad science with the poignant quote:
“In science, you don’t just get to cherry pick the parts that justify what you were going to do anyway. That’s religion.”
So true. While this episode aired a while ago, we thought it was important enough to point it out again. Watch the rest of the video below to avoid overhyping bad science.
